return

See the waves come crashing in
as rank on rank they advance again
To beat against the waiting sand
There to die by God own hand
Their earnest piling on the mainland
to see the endless golden beauty forever darkened by the door

for though the amber shades of sunset
 color brightly on the shore
the days strong light is fleetly fading
in the gloom they call for more

be alone and do not fear it
 all the way you soul can bear it
don't forsake the way, you knew it
don't belay your very last chore

be not the one who's meager offering
darkens not your selfsame store
